Diane Burton
In 2014, after years of knitting and quilting I decided to teach myself rug hooking. Since then I have hooked 100+ rugs. I get my inspiration from nature and I enjoy hooking landscapes and animals.
I hook on a lap frame using linen backing and natural fibres - wool yarn, wool strips, roving, jersey and silk.
At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year I taught rug hooking to the Grade K-7 classes at Glovertown Academy under the NL ArtsSmart Program.
I have also designed and taught beginner’s rug hooking classes in the community.
For the permanent Heritage Rug Display at the Beaches Heritage Centre in Eastport I hooked “Alexander Bay Station” depicting transportation of the past.
To expand my knowledge of rug hooking I continue to take classes both online and in studio.
I have exhibited and sold my rugs in local art centers, galleries, craft shops and have had my work juried by the Craft Council of NL.
